PoE 2 Architect's Orb: Twice-Corrupted Currency

What is an Architect's Orb?

An Architect's Orb is a currency item used on already corrupted equipment or jewels. When you use it, the item becomes Twice-Corrupted.

In practice, this means one of two things usually happens:

  • The item gains an additional corruption enchantment
  • The item is destroyed

There is no way to influence the result. Once you use the orb, the outcome is final.

Most players treat Architect's Orbs as high-risk tools meant for gambling on items that are already finished or hard to improve in other ways.

How does Architect's Orb work?

When you apply an Architect's Orb to a corrupted item, the game rolls between two outcomes.

  • 50% chance: the item survives and gains a new corruption enchantment
  • 50% chance: the item is destroyed

If the item survives, it remains corrupted and is now marked as Twice-Corrupted. You cannot use another Architect's Orb on it.

In general, players only use this orb on items where the potential upside is worth completely losing the item.

What items can it be used on?

Architect's Orb can only be used on:

  • Corrupted equipment
  • Corrupted jewels

It cannot be used on uncorrupted items, and it does nothing to items that are not valid equipment or jewels.

Most players save it for high-value corrupted items, such as strong uniques or well-rolled jewels that cannot be improved through normal crafting.

How do you use an Architect's Orb?

Using the orb is straightforward:

  1. Right-click the Architect's Orb in your inventory
  2. Left-click a corrupted equipment or jewel item

After this, the game immediately applies the effect. There is no confirmation step, so players usually double-check the item before clicking.

The stack size of Architect's Orb is 10, which makes it easier to store compared to single-use currencies.

Why would players use it?

In general, players use Architect's Orbs for one main reason: access to power that cannot be obtained any other way.

Most corrupted items are locked and cannot be modified further. Architect's Orb offers one last chance to improve them, at the cost of a high risk.

Typical use cases include:

  • Trying to add a powerful corruption implicit to an already good item
  • Gambling on rare or unique items that are hard to replace
  • Pushing endgame gear beyond normal limits

Most players avoid using it on items they cannot afford to lose.

How do you get Architect's Orb?

Architect's Orb has strict acquisition rules and does not drop freely like many other currency items.

In general, players obtain it through the Locus of Corruption in Atziri's Temple.

Instead of using the crafting bench effect in a Tier 3 Corruption Chamber, players can choose to take an Architect's Orb as a reward.

This choice is usually made when the player already has a corrupted item they want to gamble on later, rather than immediately corrupting something in the chamber.

Is Architect's Orb worth using?

Whether it is worth using depends on the item and the player's goals.

For most players:

  • It is not a general-purpose currency
  • It is not safe or consistent
  • It is a deliberate gamble

In practice, experienced players only use Architect's Orbs when the potential gain clearly outweighs the loss of the item.

Key things to remember

  • Architect's Orb only works on already corrupted items
  • The result is always unpredictable
  • The chance to destroy the item is exactly 50%
  • Twice-Corrupted items cannot be modified further

Most players see this orb as a final step, not part of a normal crafting process.
